| Will the course be
right for me?
Le Petit Canard's
discovery courses cater for learners who are in the “early”
or “improving” stages of learning French.
To check whether a course will be suitable, please
look at the statements below. If you think that at least four statements
apply to you, we are confident you will enjoy and benefit from our
carefully planned programme of teaching and visits.
• I want to improve the accuracy and fluency
of my French.
• I want to cope better in everyday situations,
e.g. in a shop or restaurant.
• I want to be able to extend a conversation
beyond a predictable round of simple questions and answers.
• I can say things… but freeze the
minute someone replies in French.
• When French people talk to me, I can
usually understand the gist, but much of the detail escapes me unless
they take the trouble to speak clearly and slowly.
• I have some knowledge of French grammar
but cannot always apply what I know in the heat of the moment.
• I find French pronunciation tricky.
When I see a new word or phrase, I am not confident that I can pronounce
it accurately.
• When I speak French, my pronunciation
does not usually prevent others understanding me, but I am aware
there is still room for improvement.
• I learnt French when I was younger,
but find it difficult to recall and use what I was taught.
• I am already working to improve my French
(for example, with CDs or with a weekly class), and would like an
opportunity to practise and use what I have been learning?
• I get a lot of satisfaction from my
use of French, but I also get frustrated from time to time with
my lack of progress.
• I want learning and using French to
be enjoyable, not terrifying.
Because of our experience, the size of our
classes and the fact that two expert teachers are on hand at all
times, we will be able to cater for your individual needs and build
carefully on what you already know. Our self-assessment form (provided
following successful application), will help you to give us a clear
picture of your experience and attainment before the course starts.
During the week, a combination of whole-class, small group and individual
work will ensure that you have a wide range of useful learning opportunities.
